At Rishikesh Yoga Valley, our 200-hour yoga teacher training has changed the way many of our students live, not just how they practice. As they’ve shared their experiences with us, five lessons keep coming up again and again. Here they are, in their own words.
What Our 200-Hour YTT Students Learned: 5 Powerful Takeaways
1. The Importance of Correct Yoga Alignment
Most of our students come well-prepared for our yoga teacher training — some with years of self-practice already behind them. But on arrival, they discover just how much depth there is once they start learning yoga anatomy and alignment. Getting into a final posture is the least important part; preparing for each asana, understanding its impact on the mental and physical body, and creating real safety for both mind and body — that’s the true essence of practice. Alongside that, we place real emphasis on avoiding repetitive stress injuries caused by incorrect form. Most students describe the experience as “learning from scratch.” We lay a strong foundation of knowledge and encourage students to build on it creatively in their future classes.
Whether you’re here for self-development or to become a teacher, the most important thing is learning the right methodology for practice.
One student writes: “Rishikesh Yoga Valley is the best place for learning yoga in Rishikesh. Kamal has in-depth knowledge of yoga alignment, and his adjustments are on point — perfect! He’s a local guru of the Yoga Capital, Rishikesh, and has learned from his own great gurus over many years of teaching. I’m grateful for this knowledge, and I can’t wait to come back!”

2. The Secret to Healthy & Happy Living
We believe the secret to a happy life lies in routine. Human beings need to stay connected to their true selves and to nature to feel truly fulfilled. No matter how many goals we chase in concrete jungles, our hearts crave simplicity and authenticity at the end of the day. We’ve built a routine here that balances movement and rest, nourishing meals for body and soul, meaningful excursions into nature, and real conversation — because at the end of the day, we all crave connection.
Many students describe Rishikesh Yoga Valley as their second home — a place where they’ve felt safe to express themselves, ask questions freely, and get real guidance from experienced teachers toward their own goals. We’re proud that every student leaves happier, with a promise to come back.

3. Enriched Health & Well-Being
Our students describe the food here as “fresh and simple, satvic, healthy, and yummy!” Our meals are crafted with care, using fresh, seasonal produce and simple ingredients — never overly spicy, always focused on drawing out real flavor. We accommodate vegan needs too, so every student is comfortable. By now, we’re used to hearing that people will miss the food most of all. As yogis, we’re mindful of what we eat, knowing it shapes the mind as much as the body — and we bring that same care to what we serve our students. Many have noticed real improvements in their sleep and their overall ability to slow down.
One student shared that she’s noticed fewer cravings for sugar, chocolate, and quick energy fixes since eating balanced meals here. Moments like these are what keep us going.

4. A Very Local Experience
Our entire team — including our cook — are locals to the Yoga Capital of the World, with countless stories and experiences to share with students. Outside of class, conversations turn light-hearted: local culture, local food, and life in the mountains. Our founder, Kamal ji, who grew up in these lower Himalayan mountains, sometimes arranges a trip back to his childhood home — an unmatched, unforgettable experience for our students.
“We went to Kamal’s relatives’ wedding at their mountain home over the weekend — the views were to die for. I never imagined I’d get to see local mountain culture like this in Rishikesh. We tried so much food, sat around a bonfire, listened to local music, even saw some local dancing. It was the best day, full of love and happiness,” writes our student from Spain.
That trip reminds us of another moment — celebrating Holi, the local festival of colors, with our Rishikesh family. Here’s a look at that day:

5. Ayurveda: A Treasure of Herbal Wellness
We included Ayurveda in our teacher training curriculum for one purpose: to bring students closer to natural science, and closer to their own relationship with the world around them. Ayurveda’s basic principles hold real secrets to a long, healthy life. Using herbal remedies, rejuvenating practices, and home remedies in daily life has helped many students improve their health, concentration, and mental clarity. Learning about medicinal plants, the body in depth, and how to care for it in today’s fast-paced world gives students knowledge they’ll carry for life.
